United Methodist Women

Message from the UMW PresidentDear Ladies,
Well, it has been an interesting few weeks! My knee replacement went well. Recovery is taking longer
than I expected, but I think I probably was unrealistic. My physical therapist says I did too much and need to
slow down. Nuts!!

I want to thank all of you for support during this time. I know that your prayers have made a huge difference!
The cards have been a big booster. Thank you also to the Circle of Joy for their meals, cards and
prayers. You don't know how much these things mean.

Special thanks to Laura Tuzun and Janet Zeigler. Laura wrote the president’s message and did a
wonderful job. I’ve had several people comment how much they enjoyed her message. Janet took charge of
the April board meeting and did a great job as usual. It was a relief knowing I didn’t have to worry about a
thing.

We have been participating in "Unbinding the Gospel". The idea of sharing my faith is both intimidating
and exciting. The first part of the book is understanding why our churches are declining. Now we're starting
to look at how to successfully share your faith. Rev. John Dritt (who preaches @ 5:30p.m. Sun.) preached a
sermon comparing Elvis fans and disciples of Jesus. His whole thesis was wouldn't it be wonderful if Jesus
disciples were as enthusiastic and vocal as Elvis fans. I hope I can become a vocal disciple of Jesus.

This seems like a short message, but I really have been focused on recovery.

Thank you again for all your support.

Blessings,
NancySummer Reading ProgramStretch your mind with some thought provoking reading and discussion this summer!

Topics vary from health/wellness to social justice, comparative religions, child raising, the environment...essentially any field that is of interest to members.  Click here to connect with the international UMW website.

• Spiritual Growth

Those participating in the reading program choose one of four plans.
Plan 1: 5 books per year, one from each category and reading of Response magazine (in our library).
Plan 2: 10 books per year, two from each category; reading of Response and New World Outlook (in our library).
Plan 3: 15 books per year, two from each category plus five additional books from the list; reading of Response and New World Outlook.
Plan 4: 20 books per year, two from each category plus 10 additional books from the list; reading of Response and New World Outlook.

Books from the lists of 2008-2012 can be used to fulfill the requirements. 2012 titles in our church library include: Beaded Hope, Forgotten Girls, It’s Easier to Reach Heaven Than the End of the Street: Jerusalem Memoir, We Wait You: Waiting on God in Eastern Europe, Hidden in the Rubble: A Haitian Pilgrimage to Compassion and Resurrection.
